2016 Peter John Loux Award Winner: Jacob Mansch

Jacob was born with spina bifida, but he does not allow his disability to stop him from living life on his terms. He has trained for and competed in the Challenge Games, has won gold medals in adaptive bowling, participated in St. Jude Bike-a-Thons with his hand cycle, and volunteers often.

Despite being told that he would probably never even graduate high school due to his disability, Jacob created a path for himself as an educator and a functional skills mentor for Belle Plaine middle and high school students who face mobility and cognitive challenges. He has endured societal pressures, numerous invasive surgeries, and difficult mobility setbacks, but he takes these blows as a challenge and does not back down.

“In this life, he has seen many challenges, overcome obstacles, and faced adversity head on. He gives to anyone in need without a moment’s hesitation. He has the biggest heart and the warmest smile,” said Judy Happy, who nominated Jacob. “Disabled – not Jacob. He is very able and he proves it every day.”

Surrounded by his family, friends, and the whole CPRF crew, Jacob received a check for $1,000 at an awards banquet.
